NM Environment Dept. Responds to Toxic Substances Discovered in Clovis City Water Supply

NM Environment Dept. Responds to Toxic Substances Discovered in Clovis City Water Supply February 14, 2020 - Our Land Correspondent Laura Paskus sits down with New Mexico Environment Department officials to discuss the breaking story of toxic chemicals found in the City of Clovis's water supply. EPCOR, which runs the water system in Clovis, notified customers that PFAS contaminants were found in some of their intake wells, which have been shut off. The company sent a letter to customers in early February letting them know the level of PFAS contaminants is low and assuring them that drinking water is safe.

These PFAS chemicals are the same as those tied to a firefighting foam used at both Cannon Air Force Base and Holloman AFB near Alamogordo. State officials are currently in a legal battle with the U.S. Department of Defense over that contamination, which has seeped into the groundwater near both bases.
