1.5 Degrees Live at Fringe World Perth, January 24, 2020

1.5 Degrees Live at Fringe World Perth, January 24, 2020 Perth's popular Fringe World Festival is being sponsored by one of Western Australia's biggest polluters, Woodside. In response Extinction Rebellion took to the fringe of Fringe to read the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report over several weeks. The report, described as the most important documents written this century, outlines the impacts of our changing climate and the need to take immediate action to keep average global temperatures from climbing any more than 1.5 degrees.
Woodside also plans to develop an area of the Pilbara, the Burrup Peninsula, which threatens globally significant Aboriginal cultural heritage. The rock art of the peninsula is the world's oldest and largest outdoor rock gallery. Emissions from Woodside's Burrup Gas flare produces acidic compounds which are already destroying the rock art. The Friends of Australian Rock Art joined in the 1.5 Degrees Live reading on January 24 to raise awareness of the cultural impacts of Woodside on Murujuga/the Burrup Peninsula.
