Weinstein case shows Hollywood is 'morally bankrupt'

Outsider’s host Rita Panahi says Hollywood should be ashamed that it "poster child for the creepy male feminist”, Harvey Weinstein.

The disgraced movie mogul was convicted of third-degree rape and criminal sexual assault in a New York court last week but Ms Panahi said “in all the reporting of his downfall, very little has been said about Weinstein's considerable links with the Democratic party”.

She said “during his trial the court heard how Weinstein would use his friendships with political heavyweights, particularly the Clintons, to intimidate his victims”.

“The movie mogul not only helped raise significant funds for the Democrats but he personally donated more than $1 million and was on particularly friendly terms with good old Bill” she said.

“His influence and proximity to political power meant he was untouchable in the eyes of Hollywood's elite, a morally bankrupt community where seeming good is always preferable to doing good.

“They knew of Weinstein's predatory behaviour but, with a few notable exceptions, they chose to turn a blind eye to his rape antics because he had the right politics, was powerful and could advance their careers.”
