Non-resident Indians (NRIs) -- who have Indian citizenship -- can now own upto 100% of Air India (AI) without violating the substantial ownership and effective control (SOEC) norm. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday cleared this move as AI divestment process is known to widen the base of bidders.
At least two London-based NRI business houses have been considering to operate an airline in India.
