Dutch Sheets: Holy Spirit Takes Hold With Us (Romans 8:26)

Dutch Sheets: Holy Spirit Takes Hold With Us (Romans 8:26) Dutch Sheets: Holy Spirit Takes Hold With Us (Romans 8:26)
Lots of nuggets in this teaching from Dutch about Romans 8:26-28. He helps us understand that Holy Spirt prays with us, not just for us! We need to cooperate and yield to His leading if we expect the promise of verse 28 that “all things work together for good to those that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.” Verse 26 says, “In the same way the Spirit also HELPS our weakness.” The word “help,” does not really do justice to what Holy Spirit does for us. Included in that meaning for “help” is “take hold of, together with.” Dutch says, “Please notice the phrase “together with.” He does not say there He will take hold FOR us. He will take hold WITH because we humans are forever looking for ways to comfort ourselves with a theology or mindset that even if we don't do our part, He'll still do His. But the point of the way this is all written in Greek is that IF we allow for Holy Spirit to do what HE wants to do and take hold WITH us… THEN we’ll see all things work together for good.”

Holy Spirit reminded me during the
worship of Romans 8:28 says “we know that
all things work together for good.”
He reminded also me of the of Romans 8:26:
“Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.
For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought,
but the Spirit Himself makes intercession
for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
The word “weakness” there is a word that means
“without ability or power.”
We're not able to accomplish in our own
strength what we need to do.
It says, “We don’t always pray as we should or ought.”
The word “should” or “ought” is
the same word used in Matthew 16 when he
is talking about the ekklesia.
Matthew 16:18
“And I also say to you that you are Peter,
and on this rock I will build My church…”
I'll build my ekklesia, which we all know it's not
just the bride or the body or the family -
that's in a previous word in the passage -
but ekklesia is a word for legislature, government.
I'll build, establish my kingdom government on the earth through
my people. And then and He says they'll bind and loose.
I'll give them keys of authority, my
kingdom keys and they'll bind and loose.
Bind and loose are legal terms,
they're judicial terms.
It's very consistent with the concept of a government.
He's saying this government that I have will have authority,
my authority, just as a judge would or a legislature.
They'll have my authority to legally forbidden something or legally allow it.
Binding means legally binding.
It later came to mean physically binding, but the etymology of the word
means legally binding. The other word means you are released from a legal obligation.
When we don't how to pray the Holy Spirit
then takes hold with us against us the opponent.
Please notice the phrase “together with.”
He does not say there he will take hold FOR us.
He will take hold WITH because we humans are
forever looking for ways to comfort ourselves with a theology
or mindset that even if we don't do our part,
He'll still do His.
That way, no matter what we say or do,
or no matter what happens thus He'll just make it work for our good.
He gives this powerful explanation of what the Holy Spirit will do.
Then He says in verse 28, “AND we know that all things
work together for those that love God,
and are called according to His purpose.”
It's not a standalone statement - it's connected with AND.
It’s dependent on what was just said.
He never said - nor is it true – that for a Christian,
all things work together for good.
I'm going to tell you right now - they don't.
They can.
He wants them to.
He's willing for that and wants it.
But the point of the way this is all written
in Greek is that IF we allow for Holy
Spirit to do what HE wants to do to
help us, and take hold WITH us and let
Him intercede through us…
What that leads to is this incredible promise in verse 28.
When THAT happens, all things work together for good.
If you’ll let Him work with you in prayer.
You have to do your part – He takes hold WITH us.
If you do what He says, that allows him to get involved.
