WA to enforce country's harshest penalties for drivers caught using phones Motorists in WA face a $1,000 fine and the loss of four demerit points as police crackdown on drivers who are caught using their mobile phones while behind the wheel.

From July 1 this year, anyone caught texting, emailing, using social media or watching videos on their phone while driving will incur the penalty, which will tie with Queensland for the country's most stringent penalty.
