Gold Room Lecture- Corey Mwamba

Gold Room Lecture- Corey Mwamba Born and based in Derby, Dr Corey Mwamba is a critically acclaimed vibraphonist, as well as a researcher, promoter, and radio presenter. He is the artistic director of Derby Jazz, and presents "Freeness", a show of improvised music from across the globe on BBC Radio 3. Dr Mwamba was awarded his PhD, for which he was funded by the AHRC-sponsored M4C programme, by the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Birmingham City University and is an associate lecturer at Goldsmiths College, London.

During this lecture Corey Mwamba takes the audience on a personal journey through British/Irish jazz and improvised music, and explores how the meaning of the word "jazz" has constantly evolved and changed through his twenty-six year playing career. He also talks about the ending of his live performance career, and "Freeness" the show which he presents on BBC Radio 3.
