British High Commissioner to Australia, Vicki Treadell says post-Brexit Australia's relationship with the United Kingdom will go "from strength-to-strength”. Almost four years on from the 2016 referendum, the UK ceased to be a member of the bloc last week.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has indicated that Australia is interested in pursuing a closer trade relationship with Britain now Brexit has been finalised.
Ms Treadell told Sky News “both our governments have stated the importance of the relationship, and that is our intention”.
“We are ready to take this relationship to a new strategic level – how and where we work together – and a particular priority for both our foreign ministers is the international ruled-based system,” she said.
