Dear Democracy

Dear Democracy Dear Democracy
Music and Lyrics by Krista Volden

Verse 1:

Dear democracy, I watched you go - so much power in our hands but then we lost control, and every word we say these days is just an echo. Dear democracy, what the Hell? You used to stand for something I believed in until you fell, and you’ve fought so many wars but now you’re at war with yourself.

Bridge:

We traded in this proximity to be closer to those living across the sea in a man-made virtual reality so we could be who we wanted to be.

Chorus:

But, nobody knows me, nobody knows the real me - I’m chained to an image that’s on a screen. Oh democracy, I’m not really free.

Verse 2:

Dear democracy, you lost this fight the moment you demanded that your people had to pick a side. In a world so filled with colour, how can anything be black and white? And, dear democracy, you’re a ball and chain cos we’re married to a page until the day that it stains our name.

Bridge:

We traded in this proximity to be closer to those living across the sea in a man-made virtual reality so we could be who we wanted to be.

Chorus:

But, nobody knows me, nobody knows the real me - I’m chained to an image that’s on a screen. Oh, nobody knows me, nobody knows the real me - how can you if you’re not close to me? Oh democracy, we’re not really free.

Verse 3:

P.S. democracy, you lost my trust when you refused to show up at the table and just discuss, cause we’re closer than we’ve ever been, but still so filled with prejudice.
