Within a healthcare setting such as hospitals and clinics, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners can provide support, liaison and advocacy. Within a community setting they can play a role providing better access to (preventative) health services and health promotion advice and activities.
The purpose of the new module is to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners with a basic understanding of acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease, and to clarify the role of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker in supporting people along their journey with ARF and RHD.
After completing this module, you will be able to describe:
· how to prevent the spread of strep A bacteria;
· the most common signs and symptoms of acute rheumatic fever; and
· how to care for people with rheumatic heart disease
